Cruise Embarkation Day Checklist

Embarkation day is a sequence, not a scramble. Run it in order.

Before you leave the hotel

Documents in hand (not in checked bags), ship luggage tags attached if your line mails or emails them, carry-on packed with medication, chargers, swimwear, and a change of clothes. Eat breakfast — terminal timing is unpredictable and lunch may be late.

  • Boarding pass / check-in confirmation
  • Passport or confirmed documents for every traveler
  • Credit card you will register onboard
  • Phone charged; line's app installed and logged in

At the terminal

Porters take checked bags at the curb — tip per bag and keep your carry-on. Security and document checks come before check-in desks. Arrive inside your assigned window: early arrivals wait outside, late arrivals risk the door closing at the published cutoff.

Once aboard

Complete the muster (safety) drill as soon as the app or station check-in allows — the ship cannot sail until everyone complies. Find your cabin when decks open, meet your steward, and check that bags arrive by evening. Then do the three first-evening moves: book or confirm specialty dining and shows in the app, walk the ship's main decks to orient, and be on deck for sailaway.

First-night traps

Skipping the onboard-account setup and discovering the hold policy at the spa; buying packages at the pier-side table under time pressure (the app sells the same packages calmly); and unpacking everything before checking the cabin works — report problems to guest services the first evening, when fixes are easy.

The CruisePalm verdict

Documents in hand, drill done early, bookings confirmed in the app, sailaway on deck. That is a perfect embarkation day.
