Port Everglades Guide: Terminals, Parking, FLL Transfers & Hotels
Port Everglades is Fort Lauderdale's deep-water port and the calm, efficient sibling of Miami cruising. It is home to Celebrity, Princess, Holland America, Disney's Fort Lauderdale ships, and Royal Caribbean patterns — and it sits almost beside Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). That proximity is real, but port security and terminal flow still demand a buffer.
Best for: Premium and classic cruising — Celebrity, Princess, Holland America — plus Disney from Fort Lauderdale and travelers flying into FLL.

Terminals, in plain language
Terminals are numbered and spread across the port's northport and midport areas. Your cruise line assigns the terminal; confirm it in your documents and follow port signage on arrival — the terminals are not all walkable from each other.
Port Everglades is an active secured port: photo ID is checked at port entrances, and vehicles may be directed through checkpoints. Keep documents in the cabin of the car, not the trunk.
Curbside porters handle checked luggage per terminal. Carry-on keeps documents, medication, and anything needed before dinner.
Parking, without the ambush
Official garages and lots serve the terminal clusters; per-day pricing and garage assignments are posted on the official Port Everglades site — confirm the current rate and the garage for your terminal there.
The Heron and Palm garages serve midport terminals; northport has its own lots. Parking in the wrong cluster adds a shuttle or a long walk — match the garage to your terminal before you arrive.
17th Street hotels frequently bundle 'sleep and park' rates that beat garage math for longer sailings.
Airports and transfers
FLL is about 2–3 miles from the port entrance — one of the shortest airport-to-ship transfers anywhere. Taxis and rideshares are plentiful on sailing mornings.
Short distance is not a same-day guarantee: a delayed flight still misses a ship. Fly the day before for any sailing you cannot afford to lose; if same-day is unavoidable, land before late morning.
Disembarkation timing: FLL's proximity makes a late-morning flight realistic for organized travelers, but port security lines and terminal congestion argue for noon when you can choose it.
Where to stay the night before
17th Street Causeway: the classic pre-cruise strip — walkable dining, port views, shuttle offers, and the easiest embarkation morning.
Fort Lauderdale Beach: best when you are adding beach days before the cruise.
Dania Beach / FLL area: best for late flights and early port mornings at lower rates.
Embarkation day, sequenced
Use your line's check-in window; port security adds a step Miami does not have, so arrive at the window's start, not its end.
Watch for your ship from the 17th Street bridge or your hotel — Port Everglades sailings thread a narrow channel past waterfront homes; deck sailaway is a local ritual.
Travelers driving from Miami: allow a full extra hour over the map estimate on weekend sailing mornings — I-95 and port-entrance queues compound.
Watch out for
- Port security ID checks apply to everyone entering, including rideshare passengers.
- Two mega-ship turnarounds on one morning can gridlock terminal roads — patience and the earliest slot in your window win.
- Don't confuse Port Everglades with PortMiami when booking hotels or transfers — they are 25+ miles apart.
